Wired Through Generations: A Vinland Solas Story Begins
1 of 5
Welcome to Vinland Solas! Pull up a chair, grab a brew, and let's have a chat. We're your local electricians right here in Newfoundland and Labrador, tackling everything from flickering lights to full-scale rewires. We’re proud to serve our communities across the Avalon and beyond, ensuring folks have safe, reliable power for their homes and businesses.
But around here, twisting wires and connecting circuits isn't just a Monday-to-Friday job – it’s a bit of a family affair. It runs deeper than the copper in the walls, you might say. The trade, for us, stretches back through the generations, right back to my great-grandfather.
Think about that for a moment. He was picking up his tools and heading out to wire homes back when electricity itself was practically brand new on The Rock. It wasn’t the everyday necessity it is now; it was a marvel, a mystery, maybe even a bit spooky to some. People were likely just getting used to the idea of flipping a switch instead of lighting an oil lamp.
He was there at the start, laying the groundwork (or should we say, the wire-work?) for the modern comforts we often take for granted. It’s a legacy we’re proud of, one that connects us directly to the history of homes all across this province.
It also means we’ve seen things change – a lot. From the materials used to the safety rules followed, the world of electricity has transformed massively since Great-Grandad first started.
So, stick with us for this series. We'll dive into that history, share some tales from the trade (some of them quite literally shocking), and explore how understanding Newfoundland's electrical past helps us power its future, safely and reliably.
Next time: We'll travel back to those pioneering days and meet the man who started it all, learning about the "state-of-the-art" technology he was installing – the infamous knob and tube.
